Follow these steps on vCenter GUI to install the OS:

1.0) Create a New Virtual Machine from the menu File -> New -> Virtual Machine (Ctrl + N)
2.0) Select a Typical Configuration and select a 64 bit Linux OS.
Remember to allocate at least 50 GB for the disk space.

3.0) Open the tab "Options", then go to "Advanced" > "Boot Options" -> "Power On Boot Delay"
and add 5000 so the machine will not boot immediately when it powers on

4.0) After the new machine is created, power it on and press "ESC" to bring the "Boot Menu"
5.0) Select the "CD/DVD" icon and select "Connect to ISO image on local disk..." option6.0) Browse and select the ISO to be installed from your local or shared file system
7.0) After openSUSE boot menu appears, select the option "Installation"

8.0) Read, review and accept the "License Agreement" to proceed with the installation if you agree
with the terms you just read

9.0) Select Edit Proposal Settings to bring the submenu to edit the partitioning method10.0) For the disk partition options, select " Ext4 " filesystem and " Create LVM-based Proposal "
11.0) Select "Expert Partitioner"12.0) Remove home partition and change root filesystem to use maximum storage
13.0) Select your regional settings, timezone, etc14.0) To install the desktop environment, select "KDE Destkop"
15.0) Create an admin account. "Use this password for system administrator" for root user and
disable "Automatic Login"
16.0) In the "Installation Settings" screen, select "Software" to customize the installed packages
17.0) Select "Details" to bring the Search screen18.0) Select "Search" tab
19.0) Search for "kernel-de" then disable "kernel-desktop" and the "kernel-default " will be
selected automatically
20.0) Just review and continue after changes
21.0) Next select "Firewall and SSH" to setup remote connections22.0) Make sure you have set "Enable SSH Service" and "Open SSH Port" to allow remote
SSH connections
23.0) Review all settings and select "Install"24.0) The final confirmation screen will inform that hard disks will be deleted, confirm this and the
installation will begin

 

 

Network Configuration

To configure the network, edit the properties of /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-ens160 and add the gateway in /etc/sysconfig/network/routes:

 

vi /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-ens160
# Edit BOOTPROTO, BROADCAST, MTU and NETMASK
> BOOTPROTO='dhcp'
> BROADCAST='10.26.103.255'
> IPADDR='10.26.103.32'
> NAME='VMXNET3 Ethernet Controller'
> NETMASK='255.255.255.0'
> STARTMODE='auto'
> USERCONTROL='no'
 
vi /etc/sysconfig/network/routes
# Create the file and add a gateway IP as below
> default 10.26.103.129 - - 
 
vi /etc/resolv.conf
> nameserver 10.254.66.23
> nameserver 10.254.66.24
> search xxx.xxx.com
 
# Then restart network to apply the settings
rcnetwork restart
 
# If needed, stop the firewall and restart sshd services (needed if this step was skipped during ISO installation)
rcSuSEfirewall2 stop
rcsshd restart
